National Ramah Virtual Chugim - Winter / Spring 2021
Check out these amazing interactive chugim, led by dynamic experts in the fields of STEM and chess! All chugim are free of charge and will allow campers the opportunity to hone their skills and have fun while meeting kids from across the Ramah Camping Movement! Priority enrollment in these chugim will be given to campers currently registered for a Ramah camp in 2021 (prospective Ramah campers, please contact Ariel Goodman for additional information).
Mada Magic Winter Break Session: Building with Recyclable Materials
Camper grades: 2 - 4 | Capacity: 15
Date: Tuesday, December 29 | Time: 3:00 - 4:00 PM ET
Welcome, future scientists! This awesome session will challenge us to think about how we can “recycle” materials we all have around our house and transform them into building materials. We will learn some of the engineering design process and structural engineering concepts hands-on, using supplies like newspaper, loose cardboard and empty boxes, toothpicks, popsicle sticks, and paper cups to build platforms we can stand on, structures to “hide” in, model towers, or Rube Goldberg machines. Sessions will be led by instructors from the Center for STEM in Jewish Education housed at the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School.

Mada Magic Winter Break Session: Stop Motion Animation
Camper grades: 5 - 8 | Capacity: 15
Date: Tuesday, December 29 | Time: 3:00 - 4:00 PM ET
This awesome session will provide a hands-on opportunity to use common supplies found around the house (paperclips, pasta, paper, toys, etc.) to create a stop-motion animated video that can include dialogue, sound effects, and music, and be shared with family and friends. Sessions will be led by instructors from the Center for STEM in Jewish Education housed at the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School.

An amazing introduction to coding! This two-week program introduces chanichim to essential 21st century skills such as analyzing, designing, and problem solving while diving into fun and collaborative projects. Working at their own pace, chanichim will learn to code by creating games and animations. No coding experience required. Sessions will be led by instructors from the Center for STEM in Jewish Education housed at the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School.

Beginner Chess
Camper grades: 3-8 | Capacity: 10
Dates: Sundays: January 24, 31; February 7, 14, 21, 28; March 7, 14
Time: 5:30 - 6:30 PM ET
If you have never played chess before but are eager to learn, this chug is the perfect opportunity to get started. Held entirely on Zoom and LiChess, an online chess platform, this chug will give participants all the tools they need to begin their chess journey! Classes will feature chess instruction, fun mini games, and guided gameplay between players. This class is geared towards those with little to no chess experience. Ramah Stars
Let's get creative and add some tools to our acting toolbelts while meeting new friends from across Ramah! In this chug, in addition to playing fun drama games, we will be creating a short virtual Chanukah performance. We will then email home our performance so you can share it with all of your fans! Pod Across Ramah

Your opportunity to learn title animation, sound design, voiceover, visual effects/green screen, multicamera editing and so much more! During this two-week workshop, we’ll be working together to create a This is Ramah collaborative video. Using this newly acquired knowledge, each participant will be challenged to build a single or multi-level platform game, which the group will playtest in a final gameathon.
